St. Padre Pio saw many Holy Souls and spoke to them. He would always say the departed are right with the family sharing their joys and sorrows. They are right at your shoulder. I want to share a letter he wrote to his grief stricken teach Father Luigi, February 28, 1923: "You can imagine how sorry I was to hear the bad news of the departure of the very dear and good brother, taken so soon from the love of his dear ones and of those who had the great pleasure of knowing him. My dear father, I would like to say a word to you about this, to help relieve you of sad and heartrending anxiety. But I am speechless like you, from the pains that oppress me. I am elated by the sweet thought that his eyes which have closed to this earthly life have been reopened to the more splendid and more luminous light - to the divine and eternal light. The brother whom you mourn lives among his family in spirit and near his dear ones who are mourning his departure. Console yourself, my good father, and may this attestation of my holy love and fraternal esteem which I show you on this painful occasion comfort you, and may it lessen your sorrow at least in part. Don't doubt my prayers. Instead, they will be more fervent to aid the good and holy soul of your brother. I kiss your hand and embrace you with fraternal and filial affection". May Joseph's family be consoled with the knowledge that he is indeed with them!

I had this on John's Holy Card...it's fitting for Joe too: God looked around his garden And found an empty place, He then looked down upon the earth And saw your tired face. He put his arms around you And lifted you to rest. God's garden must be beautiful He always takes the best. He knew that you were suffering He knew you were in pain. He knew that you would never Get well on earth again. He saw the road was getting rough And the hills were hard to climb. So he closed your weary eyelids And whispered, 'Peace be Thine'. It broke our hearts to lose you But you didn't go alone, For part of us went with you The day God called you home. May God bless you and your family, Marie and hold you in the palm of His hand.

He was a great man and he will watch over you and your family. I know you made him so proud! His stories were always so interesting. Even though I met him about 11 years or so ago at family parties, his stories in car line is what I remember most. Even though we chatted briefly for 10 minutes here and there picking up my kids and his grandkids in car line, I could always tell how proud he was of you, your mom and his granddaughters. He spoke of everyone with such pride it was catching. His stories of when he was young were so interesting and I can see it was what made him what he was as a person, and grandfather. He was so loving and talked to me like I was one of the family. He will be greatly missed. He was so smart and brave! I can see his strength in you, Izzy, Sophia, your mom, Jim and in everyone he has graced with his presence with. May his legacy live on in his memory. He will never be forgotten. Rest In Peace Mr. O'Connor (aka Joe). I know you will be watching over your family and will be so proud of their accomplishments. Stay strong. Love all of you, Love Andrea and family
