Obituary for Edith C. Mignatti

Edith C. Mignatti
EDITH C. MIGNATTI (neeTrignani), age 93, passed away peacefully at her home on February 11, 2017. Devoted wife of the late Joseph Mignatti. Loving mother of Debbie Burnley and her husband, Richard; Nancy Siani and her husband Tom; Janet Mignatti; and the late Karen Mignatti. Beloved grandmother of Mark Burnley, David Burnley, Michael Siani, Lisa Harwell, Jazmin Mignatti, Dawn Lynch and Brian Grimaldi. Dear great grandmother of Divina Harwell, Angel Harwell, David Harwell, Daniel Harwell, Elizabeth Siani, Vivienne Siani, Brody Siani, Jacob Burnley, Amanda Burnley, Tyler Burnley and Cody Burnely.

Edith C. Mignatti was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she lived in a small row home with her immigrant parents and her aunt, uncle and cousin Gene who she remained close with his entire life. She survived a life threatening bout of polio during her childhood, which left her with a deformed leg that remarkably she never complained about and masked from most people who knew her. She was proud of her school years and enjoyed going to baseball games at the old Connie Mack stadium which was a few blocks from her house.
Upon graduating from William Penn High School, she proudly worked during World War II at the Army Signal Corp and later worked for the Navy.

After the war, she then transitioned from career woman to devoted mother and wife. She moved to Huntingdon Valley, and raised four daughters with her husband Joe who was the love of her life . She was a member of the HV Mother’s Club where she became part of their Bridge Club which she continued for many years.
Everyone who knew her quickly became aware of her cooking prowess and if lucky got to enjoy her delicious baked goods. As a homemaker, she was second to none, in fact setting a standard for cleanliness and ability to repair or clean any damaged garment. During this period, she enjoyed summers in Stone Harbor with her children and family, a practice which she maintained for most of her life.

In her later years, she began to explore her artistic side by painting with water colors, creating various crafts and taking the art of sculpting with bread dough to a very high level. A lifetime lover of music and piano player, Edith purchased an organ and quickly mastered many songs and various playing techniques that amazed all who knew her. She frequently traveled across the country with Joe and would often winter in California.

Those who knew her, will never forget the determination and strong will that she like so many of her generation possessed. She was a generous person who frequently gave to a wide variety of charities, and helped many family members get a start as her children and grandchildren began their lives away from home. She possessed a caring nature that never missed a birthday or Christmas card, and was always there with child-like laughter and joy for life which continued to reveal itself until Alzheimer’s had its way with her mind.

Edith will be sorely missed.
