Obituary for Mary R. Thompson (Morano)

Mary R. Thompson (Morano)
MARY THOMPSON (nee Morano) passed away on July 18, 2011, surrounded by her loving family and friends. At 94 years old, this Mom of the Year was the Matriarch, corner stone and foundation of the Thompson/Morano family, an extremely large family with many layers. Wife of the late Thomas Thompson, she is survived by her younger brother Joseph Morano and her 10 children; Florence (Richard) Hearn, Kathleen, Thomas (Marie), Pete, Francis (the late Julie), Joseph (Patrice), Rosemary, Charlie (Donna), John (Mary) and Richard Thompson, also survived by 25 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren, and 17 great-great grandchildren. She was known as a fun loving and caring mother and grandmother who always remembered holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, and special occasions. Although she was baptized Filomena Morano, she was known by many names: Mary Morano, Mary Thompson, Mom, Lilly, Awmom, Mamie, Mom-Mom Winky, Grandmom, and Nanny. She was a lively part to any family party, whether dancing to the Mummers, making stuffed holiday pillows, or just playing pranks dressed in Halloween costumes. While living through the depression, she had many obstacles to live through, as one of 14 children born in Philadelphia on February 25,1917. Living during this period relied on a strong work ethic, a lot of ingenuity, making sacrifices, and working together. She managed to pass these traits down to her children and her legacy will live on for many generations to come. Family and friends are invited to her viewing Friday evening, 6pm to 9pm and Saturday morning 8:30am-10:00am at L. A. DiGIACOMO, INC. FUNERAL HOME, 1055 Southampton Rd., Phila., followed by her funeral mass 11:00am at St. Christopher Church, 13301 Proctor Rd., Phila. Int. Resurrection Cem., Bensalem. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary’s memory can be made to: Blessed Margaret of Castello Home for Unwed Mothers, P.O. Box 361 Bensalem, PA 19020 or Aid For Friends, 12271 Townsend Rd, Phila., PA 19154.
