My Mother

I lost my mother and my best friend this week. My mother was a true example of what love is. She taught me so many good values and traditions from the early age of childhood that have shaped who I am today and helped guide me through life. She gave me support when I was down or in trouble, she stood up for me when I needed someone to lean on, and guided me in times of confusion or worry. She took care of me when I was sick, and she always made sure I had lots of food to eat and that I would be healthy.  Mostly though she sacrificed her entire life to make sure both myself and my sister had happy healthy fun childhoods and secure loving futures.

In the last 3 years I was fortunate to have been able to come home to the US and spend time with her doing  all the things we liked- taking walks in the park, seeing all the latest movies, going to Princeton to browse  the  shops and have coffee in a European coffee bar, and watch Dancin with the Stars and vote for our favorite dancing pair. Each and every moment I will treasure and even when we were apart and I was not living near, we would share the experiences of the week each Sunday when we talked for hours about the week. She was always interested in everything I did and was a great listener and I will deeply miss these talks. We had many plans to spend time together in the future and make trips together to new places as she always loved to visit me wherever I may have been especially in Italy. Our many times together in Italy were wonderful and magical and the family trip with my sister and Nicholas to Greece was her happiest vacation and I will always keep that memory in my heart.

My mother was known to many as the sauerkraut lady who made sauerkraut at the 50 Plus club party, as the hard worker at Illgs Meat serving customers, as  the friendly and nice neighbor offering a helping hand, as a kind and caring  friend, as a generous woman who helped those in need, and as a wonderful grandmother who always worried about Nicholas and made sure he always had blueberry pancakes  for breakfast and books  to read.

But to me she was the best mother I could ask for who was there for me at any moment through happy and sad times, through easy and difficult  times,  and her enormous love  will remain in my heart forever.
